Position #2953 - Theatre Technical Director, Safety Specialist & Lighting Designer

The University of La Verne has a position available for a Theatre Technical Director, Safety Specialist & Lighting Designer. The overall duties of this multi-layered position include managing and coordinating most aspects of the theatre production program and the theatre facilities, supervising and teaching students in the many arts and crafts of lighting and physical theatre production. The incumbent will assume the following roles and responsibilities of this position:

1) Theatre Technical Director is responsible: for supervising implementation of all technical aspects of productions for theatre department including the management of appropriate crews for productions and events.

2) Shop Supervisor/Safety Coordinator is responsible for: supervising all crew activities in scene, paint and costume shops as well as other theatre spaces; serving as a safety advisor for all department and student productions; creating, implementing and maintaining strict
safety standards.

3) Theatre Facilities Manager is responsible for: budgets, ordering and maintaining supplies, equipment maintenance, facility maintenance, maintaining theatre calendar and interacting with the La Verne Community at various levels.

4) Staff Supervisor is responsible for: all personnel functions such as hiring, training and supervising various employees i.e. work study students, contract employees, student employees etc.

5) Instructor responsibilities include: teaching stagecraft and lighting design, also supervising production experiences.

6) Lighting Designer is responsible for developing plots and paperwork, supervising student design workshops and projects, attending production meetings, training lighting crew and light board operators, supervising the hanging, focusing, circuiting and loading of lights, supervising the installation and use of sound and video equipment and operators.

7) Other additional duties as assigned may include website maintenance, maintaining archives, theatre library, managing front house operations, sharing recruiting responsibilities, assisting with curriculum planning and advising, some night weekend and/or off campus assignments will be required.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts or related discipline including courses in lighting design, stagecraft, CAD (MacDraft) and graphic design. Experience working with lighting, set construction, scene painting and costuming is required along
with strong oral and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of professional theatre work experience, at least 2 years of theatre safety experience and a working knowledge of the following software programs: Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Quark and CAD. Additionally, certification or licensing in the following areas
