Covina Center for the Performing Arts announces the kick off of its 2010 season with a celebrity slate that includes Southern California’s Channel 4 weatherman and stand up comic Fritz Coleman, and five performances of Elvis: The Musical, The American Trilogy Show, featuring Las Vegas’ two time Entertainer of the Year, Paul Casey.

The completely new  $12 million facility at the corner of Citrus and Badillo in downtown Covina launches its third season by offering both performers in January.  Coleman will perform January 9 and 10 and Casey’s Elvis: The Musical, The American Trilogy Show, is slated for January 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17.

“The Center is privileged to be able to bring celebrities of this caliber to the local area,”  producers Chris and Retha Champion stated, “as a part of CCPA’s effort to meet the local demand for quality live entertainment and cultural events.”

Casey’s Elvis, The Musical, The American Trilogy Show features a retrospective of the career of Elvis Presley with Casey in high profile impersonations of the late singer’s on-stage persona.  Costumes  worn by Presley in his night club and movie appearances will be displayed in the CCPA lobby during Casey’s run  along with interviews of  Presley’s colleagues and friends. Casey, who has toured and traveled extensively with his Elvis material, will be available for photo opportunities as well.

“Casey’s impressive show will avail itself  of the full range of the new technical facilities at CCPA,” Ms. Champion added, “and the personable Fritz Coleman will,if last year’s appearance is any example, surely please sold out houses.”

A partial list of other special events titles scheduled for production in the new East San Gabriel Valley performing arts venue include: The Sentimental Sisters; Ali England’s Broadway and Beyond; Latinologues; and The Festival of New American Musicals. Main stage theatrical titles announced for Season 2010 include Larry Shue’s The Foreigner,  Dan Groggin’s Nunsense, Lionel Bart’s Oliver!, Scott McPherson’s Marvin’s Room, and a Christmas title yet to be confirmed.

CCPA Board of Directors Chairman George Hagelis added, “In its third year of operation, CCPA seeks to continue integrating itself into the cultural life of the East San Gabriel Valley not only with the  Season 2010 attractions, but also with  an affiliation with the Citrus College performing arts programs to supplement the rich diversity of titles and events, such as Paul Casey and Fritz Coleman–all planned to further explore the local market.”

“CCPA is especially proud of its Young Performer Institute (YPI),” Hagelis continued, “and new educational symbiosis with the junior colleges offers more rich territory to explore.  Titles generated by the educational outreach will supplement the community focus of  CCPA’s full menu,” Hagelis concluded.
